Jackie’s research interests broadly center around issues of identity, embodiment, race, and Burkean rhetorical theory. Her work interrogates the ways in which the logics of “postracialism” are configured and maintained in the White American imagination; most recently, her master’s thesis explored the rhetorical work performed by (White) critics and musicians who laud jazz as the colorblind and transcendent “American theme song.” In addition, she is interested in the interplay between symbolicity and materiality and underscoring this interplay to offer new interpretations of Burke’s theoretical framework(s).
