Internship Description

Want to get paid to talk about Carolina? Join the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a social media intern.

We’re looking for Carolina students to help recruit the next class of students to UNC. If you’re a creative person, who loves building engaging social media content, and has a passion for Carolina, we hope you’ll apply to become a social media intern. The internship will be a remote position until campus re-opens.

About the Internship:
• You’ll work approximately 10-16 hours a week – brainstorming content for, posting to, and monitoring social media with other interns on the team.
• The ideal candidate is highly creative with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• The ideal candidate has a passion for communicating the Carolina experience to prospective students and representing the voice of Admissions in social media.
• You’ll work with professional staff at the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to develop innovative and effective ways to recruit talented students – your future classmates – through social, interactive, and electronic media.
• Some fun things our interns have created in the past: campaigns on Facebook and Twitter (#ApplyCarolina), social media photo contests, Twitter chats and Instagram live events, and application advice videos. We’re looking for your creativity to develop projects that engage prospective students and help our office meet its goals.

You’ll Commit To:
• Participating in online one-on-one and group meetings, weekly
• Posting content, communicating with social media followers, responding to questions, and keeping an eye on social media trends

Desired Intern Skills: You certainly don’t need to have every single one of these skills, but we’re looking for interns who have a combination of a few of these skills.

• Experience shooting and editing compelling video content is preferred
• The ability to forge collaborative relationships with others, but also to work independently
• Proven writing ability and persuasive oral communication skills, with the desire and ability to understand and communicate the voice and tone of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions
• Extensive knowledge of social media channels and tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Hootsuite
• An interest in online community development and management
• Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and identifying new opportunities for engagement
• Ability to exercise judgment when moderating user-generated content and to maintain productive dialogue
• Passion for communicating the Carolina experience to prospective students and representing the voice of Admissions on social media
• Graphic design skills, including proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
• Familiarity with web analytics and social media monitoring tools
