Ryan Brownlow (ryanry@live.unc.edu)

B.A., Theatre & Performance Studies, American Studies, Macalester College, Magna Cum Laude

Ryan Brownlow studies the interrelations of popular, folk, and everyday genres of cultural performance. His research focuses on how performance– as both a particular event and as a broader technology– implicates, contests, resists, and/or affirms wider projects of settlement, capitalism, and nation-making. He is interested in “performance” as it uniquely articulates and complicates the culturally-saturated domains of memory, locality, and embodiment.
