Biography

Kiara’s background in Journalism and Mass Communications informs her research of how media empowers and disempowers marginalized communities. She broadly connects to issues of media studies, race, and public sphere theory. She specifically examines how users of Black Twitter create a public and how this space works as a unique platform for creating cultural narratives on what it means to be Black in America.
