Ali is currently ABD. As an interdisciplinary scholar, his research interests are situated at the intersection of rhetoric, political sociology, religious studies and media. Ali’s dissertation examines the discursive performances of dissent and disagreement in hybrid regimes; the assumptions that political elites have about debate and the opportunities it provides for politicking; and their ongoing negotiation over the definitions, configurations, and conditions of public debate.
