The Process Series tenth season continues on February 16th and 17th with The Future…
“The Future is a live, interactive, technological theater event created and performed by Anonymous Ensemble. The Future is curious about why humanity took a drastic shift at exactly this moment in time. They are on a mission to learn about current human biological and social systems in order to gain valuable universal insights. Well, let us hear every spirit that can save our time.” – Future Alex
By giving the audience headphones, The Future capitalizes on various modes of translation, digitization and audio communication. The Future asks the humans questions, records their responses, and feeds them back into the soundscape of the experience. The work is fleshed out by interactive sound, light, image, and language, as the performers from the future pursue a collective answer to the question of what it is to be human in 2018. Today, in America, in Chapel Hill, in Swain Hall, in this room, right now.The Future grapples with understanding our own fleeting experience of human-ness. According to ensemble member Eamonn Farrell, “We are so excited for our Process Series Residency and to have a chance to work with the students at UNC so they can help us figure out these new technologies that we are developing that will hopefully create a totally new way for performers to interface with audiences.” Artistic Director Joseph Megel adds, “The Anonymous Ensemble will be in residence for two weeks prior to their pubic performance, working directly with students as they develop their work. This will be a rare opportunity to see an experimental, interactive and emerging performance work that fuses digital media, evocative sound, and live performance in one space to create an utterly unique experience for the audience.”

About Anonymous Ensemble:
The ensemble creating and performing The Future consists of five artists who share roles as performers, technicians, and musicians. Core Anonymous Ensemblemembers include Jessica Weinstein, performer and audience facilitator, Eamonn Farrell, performer and interactive programmer, Liz Davito, performer and musician, andLucrecia Briceno, lights. They will be joined by Alex Klimovitsky, musician and composer, and Thomas Kavanagh, performer and interactive programmer.
Anonymous Ensemble creates original media and performance that vigorously challenges the audience/performer relationship. Founded in Brooklyn in 2002, they have created over fifteen original shows, including The Turing Opera, Ship of Fools, Liebe Love Amour!, I Land, Troop Troupe, Wanderlust, and The Best. Their work has been presented throughout NYC (National Sawdust, HERE, Mabou Mines, LaMama, Incubator Arts, The Chocolate Factory, Ars Nova, The New Ohio Theater) as well as internationally in Greece, the U.K., Norway, Germany, and Australia. They have been invited for performance residencies and workshops at NYU, Princeton, Duke, and Wesleyan Universities.
About The Process Series: New Works in Development
Dedicated to the development of new and significant works in the performing arts, The Process Series features professionally-mounted, developmental presentations of new works in progress. The mission of the Series is to illuminate the ways in which artistic ideas take form, to examine the creative process, to offer audiences the opportunity to follow artists and performers as they explore and discover and by so doing to enrich the development process for artists with the ultimate goal of better art and a closer relationship between artists and audiences. The Series is a program of the Department of Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.www.processseries.unc.edu
