Internship Title
Communications Intern: Video or Social Media
Internship Duration
Summer 2023
Internship Description
Club Nova is part of an international nonprofit providing support for people with severe mental illness. We are located in downtown Carrboro and serve Orange and surrounding counties. We help members go back to school, find work, and be a part of a supportive social community. We are a unique, caring and welcoming place.

We have a need for assistance with communications tasks such as community relations, developing videos, fundraising, social media, newsletters, and other projects at which communication majors would excel. The specific project(s) the intern will work on will depend upon Club Nova’s organizational priorities at the time, along with matching student interests, as possible. For example, we are hoping to have a video(s) to help prospective new members and mental health professionals get excited about and learn more about us. Or, an intern might want to work on a social media plan and then ongoing content development. This should help with awareness about Club Nova and fundraising objectives.

Club Nova members work side-by-side with the staff on almost all aspects of operations, so the intern might or might not be working directly with members to help them participate and gain skills. Interns must have the right interpersonal skills to be successful in our environment.

Interns will be working as part of a team, under direction of the executive director and the appropriate staff. A seasoned communications expert will also provide guidance. We are a dynamic place where “going with the flow” and flexibility is important. Interns may occasionally be asked to help with communications or other tasks outside of the specific project they are working on, but that should be minimal. Being organized and meeting deadlines are also critical skills.

If successful, and if they want, interns will have the opportunity to present to or share their project with the board of directors. They should have excellent references from an executive and a board member/marcom professional. Interns will also get the opportunity to talk to/communicate with professionals working for other clubhouses in other parts of the country and around the world.

We expect interns to work approximately 12 hours per week, totaling a minimum of 120 hours, if wanting 3 hours of academic credit. The start will be in June and end in August, but there is some flexibility on specific start and end dates. Depending on the tasks, interns might need to be available to work during specific events, meetings or according to members’ availability.
