Amy’s research considers how social and political practices produce public space and how those spaces in turn affect the functioning of the public sphere. She studies contemporary discourses of security and the securing of public space, with case studies like: representations of public space generated by the NYPD’s human mapping program that tracks Muslim residents’ movement, discourses of security performed at public monuments, and embodied practices of subjects in public spaces regulated by deterrent sound.
