Alex McVey works at the intersection of rhetoric, argumentation, media studies, and cultural studies. He is interested in how various media constructs and contests sovereign power through visual rhetoric of race. His current project examines the visual mediation of sovereignty and anti-blackness in the “post-racial” conjuncture of the Obama presidency. It examines body-mounted police cameras, Ferguson, MO, and the My Brother’s Keeper program as case studies. Alex also coaches debate at high school and college levels.
