Durham has been its Fellows Program.  Each year  participating students are immersed in the best of Full Frame: new films not yet distributed and classic films from the past, attending screenings, engaging in panel discussions with professionals as well as simply being a part of the documentary community as a whole. Fellows enjoy private Master Classes with legends in our field: DA Pennebaker, Steve James, Albert Maysles, James Longley and many, many others. Participants are offered passes at a significant discount. Full Frame’s intimate landscape gives students the opportunity to network with filmmakers and industry professionals organically.

Peter Gilbert (Hoop Dreams) says: “Steve (James) and I have found more interns and eventually, colleagues by meeting them as fellows at the festival.” The program serves the documentary community at large not only by furthering the training of these young professionals, but by bringing them together with the very mentors who they can professionally apprentice with. It is an invaluable experience beyond what they can ever learn in the classroom.

Two other mentors, the Academy-Award nominated team of Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar are annual participants in the program:

This year our department will be hosting four fellowships. Interested students must be able to attend all the dates of the festival (April 4 through 7).

Please send an email to both Mark Robinson (mrobin@email.unc.edu) and Dana Coen (rcoen@unc.edu) explaining your interest, qualifications and commitment to the Festival by Wednesday, February 27th.
